How to Get Tibet Permit in China for International Tourists?

Although the Tibet Tourism Bureau has opened branch offices in Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, its head office in Lhasa is the only option for non-Chinese tourists. You need to provide detailed tour information: tour itinerary, passport, and Chinese visa to the Tibet Tourism Bureau Lhasa Office.

Next, according to the Tibet travel policy, foreigners need to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit through a Tibet travel agency, which will help with your tour service packages, such as transportation, guide services, and hotel reservations in Tibet.

Headquartered in Lhasa, we ensure a hassle-free application for your Tibet Permit. Simply provide scanned copies of your passport and Chinese visa after you book a Tibet tour with us, and we will handle the rest for you.

Once the Tibet Permit is issued by the Bureau, we will deliver it by express to your address in the mainland of China. Please keep the permit properly, as you need to show it when boarding the flight or train to Tibet.

Upon arrival in Tibet, your Tibet Permit will be collected and kept by your guide, who will show it to officers at different checkpoints as needed throughout your journey in Tibet.

The procedure usually takes about 8-9 working days, while the delivery takes another 2 to 3 days. - Check the full guide to getting Tibet Permit.

As an expat in China, you’ll need to provide the appropriate documents based on your Chinese Visa type. For example, if you have a work visa (Z Visa), you’ll need to provide proof of employment, and for a study visa (X Visa), you’ll need to provide proof of enrollment. You‘ll provide us with the relevant documents along with scanned copies of your passport and visa.

After we get the Tibet Permit, it will be sent to your residence ready for your Tibet entry.
