Two young Tibetan men set themselves on fire in front of
Jokhang Temple in Lhasa on Sunday, May 27. It is the first self-immolations reported in the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, according to sources. This
self-immolation in Lhasa brings more strictness on Tibet permit 2012 after the
new policy on issuing Tibet pemit this year.
As Jokhang Temple is the holiest temple and the ultimate pilgrimage destination in Lhasa and the celebration of
2012 Saga Dawa Festival in Tibet began from May 21, Tibetans flock to Lhasa to mark the auspicious Buddhist month of Saka Dawa commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha.
But the self-immolations made the situation in Tibet very tense. Therefore, Tibet Tourism Bureau implement more strictness and cautiousness on issuing Tibet permit 2012. If your application for the Tibet permit are rejected in the past few days, this might be the key reason.
