Experiencing Losar with Tibetan family

"I'm keen to be here to celebrate the festival with local Tibetans. We come to experience the authentic festival atmosphere, and this time I feel my dream come true," said Mr. Jiang, a tourist from Sichuan Province who traveled to Lhasa for the Losar.

Four SUVs are parking at the yard of Kirey Hotel on the Barkhor Street in Lhasa. For their owners, this is a special travel, for it is in the Tibetan New Year festival.

"We enjoyed ourselves on the way, and it is more exciting that we happen to be here during the festival." said Mr. Jiang.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Mr. Jiang and his wife visited the house of Dorje Tsering, their Tibetan friend, to experience a real and traditional Losar.

Following the custom, Dorje Tsering' family, toghter with the Jiang's, fetched some barley grain and tsamba from the harvest bucket at home and then threw the grains into the sky so as to drive evil away. Then they sat around the table, drinking butter tea and barley wine, eating the dried meat, and so on.

The night was joyful.

After the dinner, everyone stood in a circle and danced Gorchom, a folk dance of the Tibetan. Though never practiced, Jiang and his wife danced happily. "It is really an unforgettable memory, and we enjoy ourselves to the most,"  said Mr. Jiang.
