Tibetan-style Braids Come into Fashion

July,27 2016 BY Master Catherine Jigme 0 COMMENTS

In recent years it has become a fashion for female tourists to make their hairs braided like Tibetan women during their visit to Tibet, and braiding Tibetan- style braids for them also become a business in Lhasa, capital city of China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Now in some most welcomed scenic spots in Lhasa, such as the squares of the Jokhang Temple and Tamoche Temple, there are many local Tibetan women, wearing beautiful Tibetan costumes and holding multi-colored threads. They walk through the crowd and make traditional Tibetan braids for tourists, making the Tibetan tradition a new fashion.

Being keen on beauty, Tibetan women like long hair and pay much attention to having decorations on their hair. The decorative styles of Tibetans are different in different areas, which are reflected by various kinds of braids.

In the pasture areas of Tibet, women usually directly thread together various kinds of jewelry - such as turquoises, corals, agates and ambers and fix them on the braids, while women in the farming areas only make their hair into two braids, and mix colored threads into their braids, coiling up over their heads or letting the braids fall on their backs.
