Tashidokhar Monastery, a place of inner peace

With a history of 471 years, Tashidokhar Monastery is a place of inner peace for monks. As one of the temples of the Gelu Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, this temple is located in Kyerpa Township, Nedong County, Lhoka Prefecture. If tourists travel to Tsedang, dropping a visit to this monastery can be interesting.

With mottled-white walls, crimson roofs amid the flying colorful scripture flags, Tashidokhar is built in the half way up the mountain, and is one of the holy places to study Hetuvidya, the Indian classical logic. It now takes up an area of 18,648 square meters with 232.26 square meters of forest land.

Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, is Nedong's counterpart for aid-Tibet project. Along with promoting the economic, cultural, tourist and educational development, Wuhan city also helps to renovate the Tashidokhar Temple such as constructing the clean tidy concrete road to replace the original muddy road that leads to the temple, planting rows of trees, getting electricity and tap water, and installing the equipment to receive broadcasting and TV signals in monks' dorms, making the monks' life much more easier.

The most impressive thing is the "temple's library" built with the fund from Wuhan city. The library has books of religion, history and culture and so forth. There is even a librarian in charge of daily loan management and other related service. According to Sonam, the Tashidokhar Temple is the first temple in TAR to have a "library". After the building of this one, many other monasteries and nunneries followed suit. And the cultural life of monks and nuns has improved a lot.
