Photo story of remote Tibetan village in Yushu
In the Tibetan-inhabited areas of Qinghai Province, northwest China, few Tibetan villages are scattered on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. With a history of hundreds of years, some of these villages disappeared or became desolate. Photos tell the story of remote Tibetan villages in Yushu, which has been stricken by a deadly earthquake in 2010.
The Buyou Village, famous for Buyou Jiaguo old building, only has one family living in it with villagers moving out from 11 years ago. Adopting half cultivating and half herding, villagers suffer from poor transportation, which isolated them from the outside world.
In Kema Village, there are still villagers who were reluctant to move because some of them are used to old living styles, others may not be satisfied with enough living space in new houses.
87-year-old Qingmei Parco is one of the villagers who did not leave. Her everyday life is chanting the sutra by the window. Her house was therefore being protected as a culture heritage.
