Debating exam for the mid-level degree of Tibetan Buddhism

The second sutra debating exam for the mid-level degree of Tibetan Buddhism, or "Nzhing Ram Ba" was held at the High-level Tibetan Buddhism College of China in Beijing a few days ago.

A sign at the door reads "the Exam Site of the Jonang Sect of Tibetan Buddhism", which happened to be the only Tibetan Buddhism sect to hold the mid-level sutra debating exam this year.

Judges who are revered lamas and sutra teachers with the advanced degree or "Tho Ram Pa" from the Tibetan Buddhism monasteries in the Tibetan-inhabited areas of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and Qinghai and Sichuan Province at the exam site.

Senior lamas and monks from the Tibetan-inhabited areas of Qinghai Province asked questions to the monk examinee.

As the debate goes more fiercely, more lamas stand up from their seats and join in. Everyone asks a question accompanied by a unique gesture-clapping their hands, which is considered a respectful sign. And accoridng to the custom, the more people join in, the better the debate is, accroding to a monk audience.
