Lhalu Wetland Reserve, a perfect winter attraction in Tibet

Located just north of Lhasa, Lhalu Wetland Reserve is the only wetland inside of city in Tibet, even in China. Covering an area of 12.2 square kilometers, it is the largest and highest natural wetland in the world. The Lhalu Wetland Reserve is also a perfect attraction in Tibet in winter.

Lhalu wetland would meet winter bird climax. About 43 wild animal species cohabit on the wetland, including black-necked crane, condor and bar-headed goose, 152 kinds of aquatic animals, 101 species of insects and 332 kinds of herbage plants.

The black-necked crane and the vulture, 30 aquatic and 101 insect species all live inside the Lhalu Wetland Reserve.

The Lhalu Wetland Reserve also absorbs nearly 5,475 tons of dust and filters 10 million tons of municipal sewage from Lhasa City each year. It has become the most important oxygen source and largest air cleaner for Lhasa residents.

The Lhalu wetland is an important part of Lhasa’s unique landscape that also includes the sacred Potala Palace. Together the two exhibit an awe-inspiring combination of culture and nature of Lhasa.
