Tourism cooperative, a place for experience Tibetan culture

With the development of Tibet tourism, many Tibet tourism cooperatives are established in Tibet. The first rural tourism cooperative in Tibet is located in Jang Village, Nam Township, Quxu County of the capital city Lhasa, which offers tourists a chance to experience Tibetan folk culture.

Initiated by the local farmers, the tourism cooperative shows unique Tibetan folk culture as an attraction in peak tourist season and organizes various trainings for villagers in slack farming seasons.

Now, the cooperative is organizing its first training of this year, during which teachers from Lhasa teach the local women weaving and dyeing techniques of traditional Tibetan handmade fabrics.

Having contacted with the handicraft at a young age, the villagers often grasp the weaving technique in less than a month and they feel much easier to learn the decorative patterns, according to an official of the village.

"The training gives us a source of income during the slack season, and lets the traditional handicraft better inherited", said a local woman at the training class.

This is just the beginning for the village of over 1, 400 residents, who mainly live on agriculture, transportation business and tourism.

In the village's exhibition room, various handmade Tibetan ornaments and utensils are on show, which are all made by local carpenters and painters.

These handicraftsmen will train more inheritors, and promote the village's tourism revenue while protecting the traditional culture.
