Ya’an located on the border between Sichuan and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was hit by 7.0-magnitude earthquake on Apr. 20. Tibet donated two million yuan to Ya'an to aid people there to reconstruct their homeland.
A letter of condolences has also been sent. It said, on behalf of the three million people of various ethnic groups in Tibet, the Party Committee and local government of Tibet Autonomous Region expressed their deep sympathy to the people in quake-hit areas, and sent profound condolences to the deceased, as the 7.0-magnitude earthquake has caused heavy losses to people's lives and property since its occurrence on Apr. 20, 2013.
Sichuan Province and Tibet Autonomous Region are friendly neighbors who share brotherly relations, and the situation of disaster is the first thing on their minds. Being sympathetic to the pain of people in the disaster area, Tibetan people are expressing their concern through various ways, and preparations of participating in rescue have been implemented.
The letter added, "When trouble occurs at one spot, help comes from all quarters". This virtue has been practiced again by people of various ethnic groups in China, and the two-million quake-relief aid shows Tibet’s firm support to Sichuan's rescue actions.
It is also reported that the first rescue team from Chamdo Prefecture, eastern Tibet Autonomous Region has been dispatched to Lushan County, Ya'an City at 10 a.m. on April 20, 2013. (from China Tibet online)
