Is taking train to Tibet best way to get acclimatized to the high altitude of Tibet? No, it is a big mistake people make about Tibet train.
At present, there are
trains to Tibet from Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing . A
train trip to Tibet usually takes about two days, but you are not spending two days on acclimating the high altitude. About two-thirds of the first 24 hours on the train are spent well under 2000m, which is too low to be useful for adjusting to high altitude.
After arriving at Xining, the train begins to climb into higher altitude, but the Oxygen supply system on the train to Tibet begins to work. There are two sets of Oxygen supply system on the Tibet train. One is used for increasing the oxygen content in the train when the train to Lhasa is driven into the plateau zone. The other is directly used by passengers through independent port. There are oxygen supply tube and mask on each cabin for emergency.
Therefore, the Oxygen supply system will make you travel like in an altitude. But taking train to Tibet can be a wonderful trip with experiencing the world’s highest railway and sightseeing at different altitudes. In addition, it is relatively cheaper than taking
flight to Tibet.
