The Lhasa-Shigatse Railway is the first extension of the famous Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The longest tunnel of Lhasa-Shigatse Railway was completed on last Saturday.
The engineering and technical staffs were so excited when the 10-kilometer tunnel was completed.
Penyinla Tunnel along the Lhasa-Shigatse Railway is 10.41 kilometers long. It is the longest tunnel of the railway from Lhasa to Shigatse.
The Lhasa-Shigatse railway linking Lhasa and Shigatse in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has been under construction as an extension line of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway since 2010. The railway from Lhasa to Shigatse extends 253 kilometers, including 90 kilometers in the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon.
There will be all together 13 stations along the 253-kilometer railway line within four years construction, including South Lhasa, Qushui County and Nyemo County. It is expected that the trains' speed will be exceed 120 km/h.
The completion of the Lhasa-Shigatse railway will enlarge the influence of the Qinghai-Tibet railway and change the previous road-dominated transportation in Southwest Tibet.
