Tibetan people usually hold horse race during summer when the grassland becomes green. You can see the grand open ceremony of horse racing festival in northern Tibet from the following pictures.
Horse race would be held in different Tibetan areas at different time, such as Gyantse Horse Racing Festival held in Gyantse in June or July, Nagchu Horse Racing Festival held in northern Tibet from August 1 to August 7, Litang Horse Racing Festival held in Sichuan Tibetan Area in August and Yushu Horse Racing Festival held in Qinghai Tibetan area from July 25 to August 1 each year.
