Spring is considered as the most important season in China because farmers’ whole year harvest depends on the spring sowing. Now, Tibetan farmers are busying with spring sowing.

As Nyingchi prefecture is the lowest area of Tibet, this area gets warm earlier than other areas of Tibet and spring snowing work also starts from this area.

The spring sowing in Nyingchi has started since March 1st, 2013 based on the plan. The whole sowing area covers 180,000 mus, including 110,000 mus of grain crop, 50,000 mus of commercial crop and 20,000 mus of forage crop. Forty nine percent of the spring sowing, namely 87,700 mus, had been completed by the end of March.

In order to improve the planting technology, the agricultural professional technicians in Nyingchi Prefecture have been working in the field to give instruction to the field management of winter-sown crops and spring sowing.

The Nyingchi Prefecture has achieved 60,000 mus of high yielding demonstrative lands in 2013 in three counties, namely, Nyingchi, Pome and Zayul. Seventy mus of new highland barley variety "Zangqing 2000" has been implemented for demonstration and promotion. In the meantime, 10,000 mus of demonstration base for soil testing and fertilizer recommendation has been built.
