Tibet forest resource survey will be completed by July, Xinhua reported.
Data collected from 74 counties of Tibet are being processed and analyzed, the result of which will be updated by mid-2014.
The forest resource survey is an extensive investigation of the forest resources of Tibet by counties. The first forest resource survey was started in 1996 and ended in 2002. During the past dozens of years, great changes have taken place in Tibet's forest resources and ecological condtitions.
The second forest resource survey reopened in 2012 and was meant to cover all counties in Tibet.
The survey is conducted to feel out overall quality and distribution of forest reserve, and to keep the statistics on file. The data will be used to decide logging quota and plan forest protection.
The first stage of the survey had been done in 2012, and the second stage involving 44 shrubbery counties completed in 2013, said Zhang Jiaping, deputy head of the Tibet Forestry Department.
Data shows that Tibet has woodland of 1.7 billion hectares, 82.5 per cent of which is forest. Standing timber reserve is estimated at 2.3 billion cubic metres.
