Famous for its natural scenery and landscape, Yading is known as “the last Shangri-La” and “the last pure land on the blue planet”. Daocheng, however, has earned its reputation by magnificent snow-capped mountains, traditional valleys and picturesque lakes. The beauty of Daocheng Yading, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to travel and hike there to enjoy the purest scenery on earth, is beyond words. That very fairyland is chosen to build the highest civilian airport on earth.

Daocheng Yading Airport is situated in Daocheng Yading county, Garzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, with an altitude of 4411 meters above the sea level. Owning to this airport, the travel time would be reduced from 2 days by bus to 65 minutes by air, which can not be more of a exciting news for travelers.
People predict that since its opening on Sept. 16, the current record will outnumber that of Bangda Airport, which is also located in Tibet at 4334 meters. Speaking of which, Himalayan region is full of highland airports, Daocheng Yading Airport being the 6^th one. Officials say that they have even already made plans for the 7^th airport in the Tibetan region, in addition to enhance the infrastructure of Tibetan Plateau.
It has now initiated a daily route from Chengdu. However, routes connecting with Chongqing, a southwest business center and Maerkang county are expected to open sometime around China’s National Day--Oct. 1. Travelers from some mega-cities like Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Xi’an, if want to take direct flight to Daocheng Yading, may fulfill their dream before 2014.
