Lhasa-Gonggar Airport Highway in Tibet is put into use
Lhasa-Gonggar Airport Highway which is the first highway in Tibet is put into use from July 17, 2011. It is a great leapfrog development in the history of Tibet. Sixty years ago, the roads in Tibet were mostly narrow meandering footpathes. But today, Tibet has formed a modernized three-dimensional traffic network with roads, railways and airlines. Now, the Lhasa-Gonggar Airport Highway makes an another great step in Tibetan transportation. The highway is 37.8km, which only takes half an hour from the downtown of Lhasa to the Gonggar Airport, nearly shortening half of the time. Moreover, it is safer to drive along this high-quality road in Lhasa.
