Tibet expects new air routes

With the development of Tibet tourism and economy, more and more tourists travel in and out of Tibet each year. The current transportation system cannot meet travelers and business men’s demand, thus Tibet encourage airlines to operate new routes by investing 100 million yuan ($16.05 million) a year. In the coming year, Tibet will see more air routes.

Currently, there are seven airlines operating 38 routes in Tibet. The airlines, which will launch routes between Tibet and other domestic cities, will receive 10,000 to 20,000 yuan for each flight in the first three operating years, under the government's plan.

Carriers which open new routes within the autonomous region or from Tibet to international destinations also will receive rewards.

The government plans to increase visits to Tibet through adding flights and opening new routes. For tourists, it is more convenient if there are international flights to Tibet directly. Though traveling to Tibet by train should be an interesting journey, travelling to Tibet by flight is more time-saving.
