Sichuan-Tibet Highway, a road connecting Chengdu and Lhasa, was damaged by landslides on June 17. But today the traffic on Sichuan-Tibet Highway resumes after landslides in Tibet.
Traffic resumed on the national highway in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on June 18, after the road was damaged by landslides for the second time, according to Tibet Daily.
From June 17 to 18, the section of Haitonggou in Mangkam County of Sichuan-Tibet Highway was damaged for twice by rain-triggered landslides. By 3 a.m. on Monday, the closed section was reopened.
Landslides started at 7 a.m. on June 17, and led to about 100 meters of roadbed being covered. About 100 vehicles and over 500 people were trapped. No casualties were reported. At 4 p.m., landslides cut the road once again just after traffic resumed for four hours.
The traffic police and machinery operators join the repair work for the second time. After two days of their hard work, accumulations were completely cleared and traffic resumed.
Tourists should try to avoid taking this highway to Tibet if they want to
travel to Tibet through driving by their own for they might be trapped by landslides during this rainy season.
