On the first day we took public bus at Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station and it took about 8 hours for 330KM and this was at Ya’an, City of Rain.
In China young men always have an idea, “Ride to Lhasa!”, in summer holiday, thousands of Chinese colleague students ride bikes from Chengdu to Lhasa through National Road 318 and this was one of them and it seemed he was alone.
Mount Erlang is the first mountain over 3000M from east ocean and humidity from the east ocean is forced to goes up to the high altitude. Along the rising of the altitude, the humidity is cooled down and forms rain to drop to the group and this just causes tremendous train in Ya’an city at the foot of Mt. Erlang, which gives the city a nickname of “City of Rain”. As a result, the air climbing over the mountain becomes very dry and you may tell this phenomenon from the plants in the two sides. The side to Ya’an is dominated by subtropics rain forest and on the other side to Kangding you may just see simple short bushes or cacti.
In side Mount Erlang Tunnel. Mount Erlang Tunnel is one of the tunnels of Sichuan-Tibet highway. It is located in the Erlang Mountain, in the border of Yaan City and Garze in Sichuan Province. This tunnel is said to be a mountain highway tunnel which is the longest and have deepest buried length, highest elevation, largest ground stress as well as very complex geological condition in China. The construction of this tunnel was started in July 1996, and was completed in December 2001. Mount Erlang Tunnel Axis is divide into the Water ridge altitude of 2948 meters and tunnel altitude of 2200 meters. The most buried depth is 748 meters. It has a total length of 4176 meters.

Brakes always needs to be cooled down especially driving in the mountains. All passengers get off the bus, waiting for the shower on the bus.
