Snow Leopard Found by Tibetan Villagers

Snow Leopard Found by Tibetan Villagers

A snow leopard was found in the Derub Village of Risum Township of Rutog County, Ngari Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region on April 21, 2014.

Around 12:00 o’clock in the morning, Sonam Dondrup, a local villager reported that a wild animal attacked the sheepfold and was caught by the villagers. After the staff confirmed its identity, the “criminal” was a rare snow leopard. It seemed a little bit older, in addition, it had eaten too many lambs, therefore, it was really too full to jump out of the sheepfold.

The snow leopard is an international endangered species and is listed as the national class protection animal in China. The snow leopards mainly inhabit in west China and mountainous areas of Central Asia. It is considered that the number of snow leopard is lower than panda.

The snow leopard causing a disturbance was finally released into the wild.
