Naked Corps Swim Naked In Yamdroktso Lake

Yamdroktso Lake

Without scales, Gymocypris przewalskii are almost naked and so it is called “naked carp”. All the year round, they swim freely in Yamdroktso Lake, a natural fishpond, and live comfortably.

Naked carps belong to cold water fish. They like to live in shallow water as well as whirlpool water area near the shoal and places between rocks where water flows gently. Fond of excitement and fun, they are gregarious. In winter, they hide in deep pools and cracks in rocks. 4 or 5 naked fish will squeeze in the same narrow crack when they are happy. With good adaptability, they have no strict requirements on living conditions, which relates to their congenital cheerfulness. However, as Yamdroktso Lake is located on the plateau at an elevation of 4500 meters, their growth is slowed down by the low temperature of water, lack of food, and short growth period. After their infancy, naked carps gain little weight in 10 years, which makes their mothers and people who love them quite anxious.
