Currently, the Lhalu Wetland is undergoing 15 projects (such as resident relocation, scientific expedition) to promote harmonious development between man and nature. As the largest and highest urban wetland in the world, it is able to absorb 78, 800 tons of carbon dioxide and produce 53,700 tons of oxygen per year through photosynthesis, thus enjoying the reputation as “the lung of Lhasa”. Also located in the city, the wetland is susceptible to human behaviors such as architecture, fishing and careless littering.
