As 2014 Losar approaches, fried Tibetan doughnut becomes a heat at the food department in supermarkets in Lhasa. As a ritual New Year dessert, it remains a loving pet for both sellers and buyers.
Fried Tibetan doughnut, known as “Kasai” in Tibetan, is a traditional Tibetan dessert made of flour and butter. Fried in a pot, bite-sized flour and butter doughs transform into doughnuts of ear shape, butterfly shape, strip shape, square shape, round shape, etc., following which they are coated with sugar and later decorated with edible pigment.
