Fresh Vegetables Enrich Tibetans’ Baskets

Fresh Vegetables Enrich Tibetans' Baskets
It has been much more convenient for Tibetan people to buy as more and more farm produce fairs and supermarkets being opened in Lhasa.
At present hundreds of fresh vegetables have been available on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, as well as various eggs, meat, seafood and aromatic flavorings; some seasonal rare fruits such as blueberry and jackfruit also can be found easily.
At a weekend of March, Mr. Wang, who has been living in Lhasa for many years, came to Yaowangshan Vegetable Market of Lhasa as usual. It didn’t take him much time to select a basket of fresh food materials, including corns, cucumbers and tofu. Beyond his expectation, he even found some fresh cedrela sinensis at a booth, distributing fragrance and inviting customers to buy.
Born in Tibet, Wang has witnessed the great improvement of Tibetans’ vegetable baskets during the past decades: “it was very difficult to get fresh vegetables in Tibet when I was a child, let along eat fruit. The rare vegetables were transported from inland China, whose variety was also dull, just having turnips, potatoes and Chinese cabbages.”
