The first airline linking Chamdo Prefecture, Tibet, Chongqing Municipality and Sichuan Province will be launched on April 1st.
The Tibet Airline will run a new airline, subsidized by the local government on April.1, which was temporary arranged to operate three flights each week for the preliminary stage, in order to meet the great demand for going in and out of Chamdo.
It has been 20 years since the operation of the airline from Chamdo Prefecture to Chengdu, capital city of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, which have made great contribution in economic development, social stability, people’s livelihood improving and external exchange to Chamdo Prefecture.
The local government supposes to promote the aerial transport development to meet the urgent needs of the locals, exchanging frequently with the inland people, major in Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality and Tianjing Municipality.
It strived to approve to build a new runway in the Bomda Airport, Chamdo Prefecture, aiming to progress the development of “aerial expressway” of the region.
The Bomda Airport is the only civil airport with a five-kilometer runway in China, known as the longest runway among civil airports across the country. It lies on the Bomda grassland of Chamdo Prefecture, with an altitude of 4,334 meters, which often be referred to “the airport enduring worst weather for taking-off and landing of the flights”.
