Mina Qiangmu is one of the oldest Tibetan dances. As one of the regional intangible cultural heritage of Tibet Autonomous Region, Mina Qiangmu is gaining more attention regarding its preservation and development.
Demo Monastery, located in Nichi Village of Nyingchi County, is the major cradleland of Mi-nyag Qiangmu and Demo Qiangmu, a religious “holy dance”.
The dancers are required to be males. The monks in Demon Monastery said proudly that the monks from the surrounding counties of Nyingchi and Menling in Nyingchi Prefecture would come here to learn the dance; and even those from the Potala Palace would send representatives to learn the Qiangmu dance in order to perform on the Potala stage during important days around the Losar (Tibetan new year).
