Saga is an important stop-off point for pilgrims and tourists on the way to visiting Mount Kailash being the last town on the southern route with supplies for travellers.
Like most small counties in the west of Tibet, Saga county is very remote with the only T-shaped street. A lot of off-road vehicles from Lhasa city to Mt. Kailash, Ali or even Kashgar stop over in Saga on the first night, so the tiny Saga has developed into a flourishing county. Several hostels, cookshops and stores stand from door to door.
Saga straddles the Dargye Tsangpo river above its junction with the Brahmaputra River. It is strategically located at the junction of three roads - the Lhatse road coming from the east, the Dzongka road from the south and the Purang and Drongpa roads from the west.
