Site of Zhangzhung Kingdom

People who like Tibet travel always know Tibet is famous for the white snowy mountains and pure lakes. The history and culture in Tibet are also different from other places. Today we will talk about the Site of Zhangzhung Kingdom.

Located in the west Darlguo mountain, the Site of Zhangzhung Kingdom is 20 kilometers away from which has a history of more than 1600 years. In Tibetan history, the Zhangzhung Kingdom used to be prominent and developed.

Its rise time in west plateau is two centuries earlier than  Six Alliance of Tubo. The territory of the Zhangzhung Kingdom at that time is almost covered the whole Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and even lasted for other parts.

According to the local record of Tibet history, Today's Ngari Prefecture and Kashmir were called "the inner Zhangzhung Kingdom" and today's Lhasa, Shigatze, Lhoka Prefecture and Nyingchi were called "the middle Zhangzhung Kingdom", besides, today's Nagchu and Qamdo is called "the outer Zhangzhung Kingdom".

It was in eighth century that the Zhangzhung Kingdom was subjugated by Tubo Kingdom. The Zhangzhung Kingdom had ever developed very well established civilization. It not only formed the unique Zhangzhung characters but also grew the Tibetan local religion Bonpo of Tibet Buddhism. This religion has a profound impact on the later Tubo Kingdom and even the whole Tibet culture.

The Site of Site of Zhangzhung Kingdom nowadays is mainly near Qiongzong area. Close to the mountain stands the huge ancient city wall ruins with a height of more than several meters.

The whole city is in the hug of mountains, behind the Darlguo Snowy Mountain and next to the Tangra Yumco in the west. Grassland near here is high quality and well producing Kashmir goat. The Qiongzong Mountain is also regarded as the holy mountain in the local Tibetans' eyes. They believe that they will get endless happiness and good luck to have kora.
