Deputy: Tibetans participate in environmental protection
Qiangba Puncog, a Tibetan deputy, participate the discussion of Premier Wen Jiabao's government report during the NPC. When asked about the environment protection in Tibet, he said Tibet has favorable conditions due to its religious tradition and folk customs.
He said Tibetan people actively take part in the environment protection. Tibet's unique geographic conditions help to form the customs of awe to the nature. Thanks to the doctrine of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan tradition, people there pay attention to the protection of mountains, water, grass, animals and etc.
He said there was no much damage caused by human activities, for Tibet is sparsely populated. Some changes of its rivers, lakes and grasslands indeed exist, but the climate changes should be blamed. Tibetan people are trying their best to reduce the harm.
When asked about the monitoring of PM2.5, which has caused great concern in inland of China, he said the air in Tibet is clean, and the quality is not worrying. There has been no call for monitoring of PM 2.5 in Tibet yet. Nevertheless, he added, Tibet would publicize the result of PM 2.5 according to the national schedule.
