First Yushu-Lhasa airline opened
the plane is landing on Lhasa airport
First airline connecting Lhasa, capital of Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region and Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province hit by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake in 2010, was opened to make pilgrimage from Yushu to Lhasa more convenient by the Tibet Airline on April,24.
"I can save much time to go for pilgrimage in Lhasa by air," said Caida, a Tibetan Buddhism believer in Yushu, "Every year I will take my parents to Lhasa, it takes 3 days by car but now it only takes 4 hours by air."
Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Qinghai Province has a majority population of ethnic Tibetans. It has a number of Tibetan Buddhism temples, therefore Yushu enjoys a strong religious atmosphere among locals.
Yushu was hit by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake, which killed more than 2,600 people and flattened the central town on April 14, 2010. Local government has strived to recover the area back to normal.
Situated at 4,000 meters above sea level, Yushu is home to two state-level nature reserves, Sanjiangyuan, or the sources of the three major rivers, the cradle of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers, and Kekexili, home to several species of endangered wildlife, including Tibetan antelopes.
