Lhasa has received over 5 million tourists in 2012

Known as “a city of sunshine”, Lhasa has received over 5 million tourists in 2012. Blue sky, charming natural scenery, profound culture, grand Potala Palace, sacred monasteries, all are attractive for travelers from all over the world. Since the beginning of this summer, Lhasa’s tourism market continues to heat up. Everyday, thousands of tourists can be seen in Lhasa, in front of the famous Potala or Jokhang, on the busy Barkhor Street, beside the heavenly Lake Namtso, etc.

In the past eight months of this year, there were 5，080，000 tourists travelling to Lhasa, according to the data from Lhasa Tourism Bureau. Especially in August, many traditional festivals and activities held in Tibet attracted flocks of tourists to Lhasa to view Lhasa’s amazing sights and experience Tibetan people’s unique traditions and customs. For example, both the annual Shoton Festival and Nagchu Horse Racing Festival fell in August. During Shoton Festival, there were 1,045,200 tourists flocking into Lhasa.

Now, another long holiday of China, the National Holiday approaches. Lhasa is preparing to welcome another tourist boom. Some hotels in Lhasa have been booked out.
