The annual Shoton Festival (also Yogurt Festival) in Tibet is coming in August, 2011. Information obtained by our travel agency ( www.tibettravel.org) from the Lhasa Shoton Festival Committee says that the festival will be held in Lhasa from August 29 to September 5. This great festival will be celebrated through more than 17 activities except traditional ones like Buddha exhibition, Tibetan opera, horse racing, athletic competition, artistic performance, etc.

On August 29, 2011, the Shoton Festival, a highlight in Tibet's tourism calendar will kick off in Lhasa with wonderful cultural performance on Potala Square.

On August 29, immense Buddha paintings will be shown in Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery respectively at 8:00am and 10:00am.

From September 2 to 3, varieties of intangible cultural heritage of Shoton will be demonstrated in an activated original way in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region.

From August 29 to September 4, Lhasa Beer Festival will be held in the former Summer Palace of Dalai Lamas, Norbulingka, which will make the Shoton more attractive. At the same time, Tibetan opera can be enjoyed in Norbulingka.
