Overview

This trip starts in the main tourist sites both inside and surrounding areas of Lhasa, like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung, Sera monastery in Lhasa. Outside Lhasa, tourists can visit lofty Ganden built on the top of high mountain and the stunning architecture of Drigung Til Monastery built from the bottom of the mountain all the way to the top. Besides, tourists can refresh themselves in Tidrum, famous medical hot-springs.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa

When you arrive in Lhasa either by train or flight, your guide will greet you and take you to your hotel .An route to view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/ Bhamaputra river (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa river.

After arriving in Lhasa ,you can take a rest and acclimatize to plateau environment. If you feel to go out, then you can go to the Potala square, where you will enjoy the fountain with different colors and get amazing photos of the Potala and around.

Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 2: Lhasa Tour - Potala Place, Johkang Temple, Barkor Street (B)

Today's tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace which is the winter palace of the Dalai lama. It was put to use since the 7th Century by the 33rd great king of Tibet. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

Then after lunch, tourists head to Jokhang Temple which was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century, in order to promote the Buddhist religion. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve, perhaps the only most venerated object in Tibetan Buddhism. Around the temple is Barkhor street where you can do kora (a religious circle of a building or mountain) with pilgrims and locals, in the meantime you can buy souvenirs.

Day 3: Lhasa Tour - Drepung and Sera Monastery (B)

In the morning ,you are going to visit Drepung monastery which is one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet, founded in 1416 by Jamyang choge, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. Ganden palace used to be Dalai lama’s palace in the Drepung before he moved to the Potala palace.

In the Afternoon, Tourists will visit Sera Monastery which is another one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet, founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chojey, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. The hot attraction is the Monks debate at around 3 - 5 in the afternoon.

Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 4: Lhasa to Tsedang (B)

Today we will drive to Tsedang, the capital of Shannan Prefecture, located at Yarlung Valley. It's reputed as "the cradle of Tibetan Civilization"". You go to visit Yumbu lhakhang ,the first imperial palace on the rocky hill for a first Tibetan king and you could have nice view the whole valley from there.

Then visit one of the oldest monasteries, Trandruk,with a history of 1,300 years, which is definitely worth a visit.

Stay overnight in Tsedang

Day 5: Tsedang - Samye Monastery (B)

Tourists are about to visit Samya Monastery which is the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet, built in the 8th century. A unique monastery layout was designed in the form of giant mandala,a representation of the Buddhist universe. The main temple in the center represents Mt. Meru, the mythical mountain at the center of the Buddhist universe. The four continents in the ocean around Mt. Meru are represented by the four temples at the cardinal points, each flanked by two smaller temples to symbolize islands in the ocean.

Stay overnight at Samye Monastery hotel.

Day 6: Samye Monastery to Chim-puk Hermitage (B)

Today’s itinerary covers Chim-puk ,north–east of Samye monastery. It is a warren of caves that were once the retreat for Guru Rinpoche. It is a popular day hike for the travelers. The walk takes around four or five hours up and three hours down. Take some water with you.There is 108 meditation cave and you can see many Buddhist practitioners doing their practice.

Drive back to Tsedang and the travel ends.

Stay overnight in Tsedang.

Day 7: Tsedang to Gongka Airport (B)

The guide will transfer you to the airport or train station and help you get on board.
