Q: Why is it free?
A: Tibet Entry Permit is issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau and there is no any charge from the TTB. However, the permit must be issued through a travel agency in Tibet and this means foreign travelers must book a Tibet tour from the travel agency.
Q: Can I travel in Tibet Individually with a Tibet Travel Permit?
A: You can Not travel individually in Tibet with just a travel permit, you need to contact local travel agency and book escorted tour, travel under the guidance of local tour guide.
Q: Can I book tour with Tibettravel.Org?
A: Yes, you can book tour with Tibettravel.Org, we will not charge Tibet Permit fee as long as you book the tour package with us. we guarantee the tour package we offer is at reasonable and competitive price.
Q: How do I get the Tibet Entry Permit?
A:By taking train into Tibet travelers just need the copy of the permit to get onboard. The permit will be checked twice on the way to Tibet. One is checked when boarding on the train and another one is checked at Golmud, the gateway into Tibet. In this case we will deliver the copy of the permit together with the train ticket to your hotel/address in China by EMS as we can help our travelers buy the train ticket into Tibet throughout the county. By air into Tibet travelers need the original permit to get onboard then we will need to send the permit to your hotel/address in China by EMS, which probably takes another 3 days. In some emergency cases we will also use one-day delivery service in order to guarantee our travelers to get the permit in time.
Q: Can I enter Tibet earlier or later than the arrival date mentioned on the permit?
A:Travelers are not supposed to enter Tibet earlier than the arrival date mentioned on the permit but they can enter Tibet later the arrival date mentioned on the permit as long as it is still before the expiration of the permit.
Q: Can I depart Tibet before or after the expiration of the permit?
A:Travelers may depart Tibet before the expiration but not supposed to depart Tibet after the expiration otherwise the travel agency will face a big trouble from the government.
Q: Can I change the travel route after I enter Tibet?
A:Travelers are supposed to strictly follow the travel route mentioned on the permit as there are a couple of check points at some gateways and passes.
Q: How long does Tibet Entry Permit last?
A:It depends on your travel plan in Tibet, which should be determined when applying for the permit. Foreign travelers can stay in Tibet for 30 days at most.
Q: What shall I provide to issue Tibet Entry Permit?
A:Tourist visa holders should provide the travel agency with the copies of the passports and valid Chinese visas to issue the permit. Besides the copies of the passports and valid Chinese visa, Business visa/work visa/student visa/China residence permit holders should also provide the travel agency with the copy of the certificate stamped by the Chinese institute that helps you get the Chinese visa.
Q: If I hold both Chinese/Hongkong SAR/Macau SAR ID and foreign country passport do I need Tibet Entry Permit to enter Tibet?
A:It depends on with which ID you enter Tibet. Chinese/Hongkong SAR/Macau SAR ID holders do not need Tibet Entry Permit to enter Tibet as long as they do not travel to Nepal after Tibet.
Very important note: Once travelers try to cross China-Nepal border with foreign passports, both Tibet Entry Permit and China entry stamp will be checked at the frontier station otherwise it is impossible for the travelers to cross the border!
