Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa

Welcome to Lhasa (3650m)!

When you arrive in Lhasa, whether by train or flight, our friendly Tibetan guide will greet you with a Hada (the traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf) and warm blessings.

Then, the guide and the driver will take you to your hotel in downtown Lhasa. You may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/Brahmaputra River (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa River.

After settling into your hotel, take some time to rest and adjust to the high altitude.

In the afternoon or evening, your guide will meet you with traditional Tibetan gifts, provide travel instructions, and introduce your group members.

Day 2: Lhasa Tour - Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street (B)

Today’s Highlight is a visit to UNESCO World Heritage Sites Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, providing a glimpse into the daily beliefs and lives of the people of Lhasa.

After breakfast, your first stop is the Potala Palace, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Lhasa Old Town. Discover the lives and stories of the Dalai Lamas through history within the palace, and the extraordinary treasures it holds. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

After touring the Potala Palace, you will visit Longwangtan Park at the foot of the Potala Palace. Here, you can appreciate the majestic Potala Palace from a different perspective and engage in local Tibetan folk activities.

In the afternoon, you will head to the heart of Tibetan religion - the Jokhang Temple. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you can see pilgrims making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple. Around the temple is Barkhor Street, where you can do kora (a religious circle of a building or mountain) with pilgrims and locals, and explore the old market.

Next, follow your guide to one of the liveliest indoor Tibetan tea houses in Lhasa. Sip traditional Tibetan sweet tea alongside local Tibetans as your guide shares insights into Tibetan social dynamics and daily life.

Day 3: Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse (B, L)

In the morning, start the overland journey from Lhasa to Shigatse, which includes visits to Tibet's most beautiful lake, glacier, and a charming Tibetan village.

First, drive over the Gampala pass (4790 m) to catch a glimpse of Yamdrok-tso (4400m). The Yamdrok Lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and in the distance you can have spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7191m), the highest mountain near Lhasa. Continue to explore the lakeshore from various viewpoints, and at the end of the lake, you could visit a local family in the village and have lunch with the locals.

Next, you will pass and enjoy the Korola Glacier on the roadside. It is the largest glacier in Tibet. As you see the ice tongue of the glacier climb the entire hillside, you will feel the magical power of nature.

Then, continue your journey to Gyantse. On the way, you will stop at Simila Mountain Pass, where you can hang prayer flags to pray for world peace and the health of your family.

After arriving in Gyantse, you can spend some time taking photos of the ancient city of Gyantse. From Gyantse to Shigatse, you will pass by green (in summer) and golden (in autumn) Tibetan barley fields and countless farms.

Finally, we arrive in Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. After checking in to the hotel, you can take a good rest and prepare for the next day’s trip to Mount Everest.

Day 4: Shigatse to Tingri (B)

Today, explore the second-largest city of Tibet and prepare for the Everest Trek!

After breakfast, we will visit the home of Panchen Lama - Tashilhunpo Monastery. It stands among the six most sacred Buddhist temples in Tibet and was built, in 1447, by the 1st Dalai Lama.

Then, we will take the tour vehicle and head to Tingri. Your guide will do preparations for the trek, while you may have a good view of Cho Oyu.

Day 5: Trekking from Tingri to Lungjiang (B, L, D)

Today is Trek Day 1, with a trekking duration of 6-7 hours from Tingri to Lungjiang.

After breakfast, we will start trekking to Lungjiang in the Tingri plain. The Trekking route will pass part of the Ra-chu Valley, we will see the beautiful valley scenery with extensive meadows and packs of sheep and goats. The rest of the day we can visit a small Monastery in Choelun. This region is home only to herders and barley harvesters.

Day 6: Trekking from Lungjiang to Lamna-la (B, L, D)

Today is Trek Day 2, with a trekking duration around 8 hours from Lungjiang to Lamna-La.

The challenging trekking really starts as we go up into the mountains. Much uphill walking will be done as we climb towards the top of the Lamna-La pass (5097m). The awesome panorama of some of the highest mountains in the world is just laid out before you.

Day 7: Trekking from Lamna-la to Zombuk/Chaya Pass (B, L, D)

Today is Trek Day 3, with a trekking duration of 6-7 hours from Lamna-La to Zombuk.

Starting in the morning, the third day’s trek will allow us to meet the yak herders and their families. Our camp will be pitched in the small village of Zombuk. You are about to view the amazing sunset in this barren village.

Day 8: Trek to Rongbuk and Everest Base Camp (B)

Today is Trek Day 4, with a trekking duration of 3-4 hours to Everest Base Camp and Rongbuk Monastery.

On our last day of trekking, we will wind our way to the final destination, the Everest Base Camp. Along the way, we will visit the Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world at 5009 meters above sea level.

Day 9: Everest Base Camp to Shigatse (B)

After breakfast, we will drive back to Shigatse. On the way, you will enjoy the panorama of Himalaya at Gawula Pass (5198m).

After arriving in Shigatse, you can have a good rest at your hotel.

Tingri to Everest Base Camp Trek Notes

1. How far in advance should I book the Tingri to Everest Base Camp trek tour?

To ensure a smooth journey, it is recommended to book the tour at least 15-20 days before departure.

Of course, booking 1 or 2 months or even earlier will help us apply for necessary travel documents on your behalf and make advance reservations for accommodations.

Additionally, early booking provides the opportunity to enjoy early bird discounts.

The earlier you book, the better prepared you'll be, and you won't be troubled in a rush.

2. What are the necessary travel documents for trekking from Tingri to Everest Base Camp in Tibet?

Before you leave, make sure to get your Chinese Visa and Tibet Travel Permit in advance so you can enter the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Some other local travel documents, like the Alien’s travel permit for visiting areas outside Lhasa, can be obtained upon your arrival in Tibet.

We’ll take care of Tibet Travel Permit, as well as other local travel documents as part of our tour package. Simply follow our guidance, and there’s no need to worry about the process.

3. How to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit and how long can I get my Tibet Permit?

Once you book your Everest Base Camp tour with us, simply provide scanned copies of your Chinese Visa and a valid passport (with at least 6 months of validity).

If you traveling with a work visa, you will need proof of employment in China, and a study visa requires proof of your study in China.

Generally, it takes 7-14 working days to process the Tibet Travel Permit. Once the permit is successfully issued, we will mail it to your address in China 3-5 days before your Tibet trip, ensuring you can smoothly board the train or flight to Tibet.

4. What is the altitude of Everest Base Camp in Tibet? And how to deal with high altitude sickness?

The Everest Base Camp in Tibet sits at an altitude of 5200 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest points in this journey.

For first-time visitors to such high-altitude regions, mild symptoms of altitude sickness, such as dizziness and headaches may occur.

However, there is no need to worry. Our specially designed travel route ensures a gradual acclimatization. You’ll spend 2-3 days exploring Lhasa at an altitude of 3650 meters before moving on to higher altitudes like Shigatse (3800 meters) and Everest Base Camp (5200 meters).

According to our experience, most tourists can adapt well to the increase in altitude through such an itinerary, and severe altitude reactions are rare.

If you experience severe symptoms at the base camp, such as intense headaches or difficulty breathing, use oxygen immediately, inform your guide, and seek medical attention promptly.

If necessary, our guide will assist in transferring you to a lower altitude location, such as Zhaxizong Township or Tingri County.

5. When is the best time to trek from Tingri to Everest Base Camp?

The best time to visit Mount Everest is in Spring (April to early June) and Autumn (September to October) with fine weather, pleasant temperatures, and less rainfall. This means you have more chances to enjoy a clear view of the summit of Mt. Everest during your trip.

Though summer (July to August) is the rainy season in Tibet, it doesn't impact daytime activities as most rainfall occurs at night. Just pay attention to the clouds and fog, which may potentially obstruct the full view of Mount Everest.

Winter is a good time to visit Everest Base Camp，but trekking is not advisable due to the freezing temperatures along the route, especially at night.

6. Where to stay during the tour? How about the living conditions at Everest Base Camp?

In cities like Lhasa and Shigatse, accommodation options range from luxury 5-star to economic 3-star, allowing you to choose based on your budget and preferences.

During the 4-day trek from Tingri to Everest Base Camp, camping at designated campsites is necessary. Upon reaching Everest Base Camp, the only accommodation option is the tent hotel, which offers quite basic lodging with relatively simple facilities. Most of the Tibetan-style tent hotels at Everest Base Camp feature dormitory-style sleeping arrangements.

During the winter season, the tent hotel will close, and accommodations need to be arranged in Zhaxizong Township or Tingri near the base camp.

7. What to wear when visiting Everest Base Camp?

Whenever you go to Everest, you need to prepare warm clothing for cold weather at such a high altitude.

It's advisable to wear outerwear that is easy to put on and take off, allowing you to adjust your clothing according to temperature changes.

For your upper body, consider layering with thick autumn clothing (or thermal underwear), a sweater or fleece, and a thick down jacket or windbreaker. Opt for windproof trousers and warm autumn trousers for the lower body. Choose non-slip sports shoes or hiking boots for your footwear.

Don't forget essentials like a scarf, gloves, and a hat.

8. What to pack for the Everest Base Camp Trek tour?

Besides the clothes to take, here are some more things to prepare for your trip to Everest Base Camp.

Personal Care: Pack your essentials such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, facial cleanser, towels, and other personal toiletries. Since there are no shower facilities at Everest Base Camp, consider bringing wet wipes for convenience.

Skincare: Due to the dry climate in Tibet, pack lip balm, moisturizing cream, and hydrating masks to prevent skin dryness and cracking.

Sun Protection: Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and sunglasses for effective sun protection against the strong UV rays in Tibet.

Additional Necessities: Considering the long distances between attractions in Tibet, bring a U-shaped pillow for a comfortable journey. Also, having a thermal flask ensures you have hot water whenever needed.

Common Medications: Take essential medications like motion sickness pills, gastrointestinal medicine, anti-inflammatory drugs, cold medicine, and other medications for emergencies. Include adhesive bandages and eye drops. (Consult your doctor and carefully follow medical advice when taking medication.)

Electronic Devices: Bring your phone, camera, power bank, and any other necessary electronic devices. If you plan to bring a drone, check with our travel consultant in advance. Tibet operates on a 220V voltage.

Cash and Cards: Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely accepted in major cities like Lhasa and Shigatse. Credit cards can be used in some large hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls in Lhasa. However, in remote areas, cash may still be necessary. It's advisable to carry a small amount of Chinese yuan and at least one bank card with you.

9. Can I use my cell phone at Everest Base Camp? What is the internet access like at Everest Base Camp?

At present, Everest Base Camp has 5G signal coverage, but no WiFi service. Therefore, you can use mobile networks for communication.

However, due to the high altitude, there may be slow network speeds or unstable signals. It's recommended to download the necessary apps in advance.

Don’t forget to inform your family and friends that you may not be able to reply to messages promptly during certain periods to avoid unnecessary concerns.

What a great experience, thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish, helped by the meticulous planning by Susan Lee in the office in Chengdu and by the hard work of our guide Lhak Pa. I visited Kathmandu and the office also organised the Mountain Flight passed Everest which was simply awesome, then a personal tour of several of the temples in Kathmandu and then some villages outside the city. This was then followed by the 8 day Base camp tour from Lhasa, with a really friendly group of 10 travellers, a fantastic time was had by all, and capped off by the two day train journey to Shanghai. Hotels were all good and the whole trip exceeded my expectations, so I can recommend the company, the organisation and the guide!

15 Days Kailash and Manasarova Small Group Tour - with the guide Jamyang Tsering and driver Donten. I was satisfied with pretty much everything. The bus was comfy, the driver responsible, the guide bent over backwards to satisfy everybody and to help people who got sick. Its not easy to get to Kailash because of the terrible roads and altitude but in the end its all worth it :).

Starting for Drepung & Sera Monastery, Potata Palace, Kora @ Pentchant Lama’s Monastery In Shigate to EBC, Lake Manasarovar and Kailash Kora. First my logistic was perfect organized by Mr.Jim Pel that provided me with the necessary tickets and aprovals.

Second the tour guide Mr.Tenzen was very friendly ,hepful and with profound knowledge of the history and culture of Tibet,taking care of all our necessities.

The acomodation was excelent and according to our expectation,even we choosed to sleep in tent house and not in a regular house. The owners of the tents tried their best to provide us with maximum confort according to those specific conditions.More

And seeng the Everest at sun set (with the help of the weather) was indeed very special.

I'll recomend this tour to everyone who don't have special problems with the health.

Best Trip I have ever had in my life..7 days Lhasa and Kathmandu overland trip.

I should say its 10 out of 10, very nice excellent tour, all our permits/tickets/air/train/hotels/tents/everything was arranged in advance. Cindy our tour consultant was amazingly active and quite fast in arranging my travel. I had an excellent trip also who accompanied us with our Tour guide by the name Tsedon, she was amazing and fantastic, who had full knowledge of the Tibetian history and details of each and every visit which we made during the entire trip. Mount Kailash 13 day tour

An interesting tour of monasteries, local towns and an epic trek round Mt Kailash with an extremely good guide, Nawang Tenzin. The Tibetan people are really lovely with beautiful smiles and the land is the same.

Beware the long bus journeys and 3 day trek which was difficult in terms of altitude.

Kristen liaised with plenty of information prior to the trip and warned about the road conditions, the toilets, lack of showers in places etc. I think all of these points are really important, and I appreciated being mentally prepared for all of these, as well as bringing wet wipes, prunes, toilet paper and a neck pillow. There are long days in the bus where natural toilets are way better options than manmade ones. I was very appreciative as my tour guide Pasang was always considerate of the fact I was the only female on the trip, and he was proactive in finding me a spot.More

The tour was broken up with days traveling and monetary visits, time taken at the lake, Glacier and other various photo opportunities. Pasang gave us ample information to understand what was happening, what we were doing next and from the outset he called us friends and really meant it. He was very relaxed and approachable and managed to explain complex ideas in the monasteries etc in an easy to digest way, even for people with no prior knowledge. Pasang was awesome in that he kept tabs on everyone’s interest/energy levels and adapted his level of detail accordingly. He also provided coffee at break times on the journey which was a saviour to most on the bus each morning.

The one thing I was a little nervous about prior to this trip was altitude sickness. What I really liked about this tour is that you gradually get higher and higher in altitude so it gives you a chance to adapt. You get a few days in Lhasa to become accustomed before getting more out and about. I think actually Pasang switched up the order of a nights accommodation to make it easier for us finding it harder to adjust. One thing I recommend that saved me and my afternoon/early morning headaches (once I had had plenty of water) was coke. Normally don’t drink the stuff but it really did help with my aggressive/persistent headaches. These are available most places so that was lucky. Pasang also had plenty of oxygen canisters available but I wasn’t feeling short of breath so didn’t use them.

Highlights for this trip are definitely Everest Base Camp and Mt Kailash, plus a surprise Glacier on route. The driving days are long to get to Mt Kailash but 100% worth it. Our driver did such a great job. The roads are mostly sealed, but even so, he had to watch out/slow down for holes/uneven surfaces. Roads are being improved at the moment which meant we had to off-road for a whole section but our driver was confident throughout. Definitely bring a neck pillow, you get bounced around a fair bit which rocked quite a few people to sleep each day. You really start getting a feel for rural Tibet by taking the time to get that far west and the fact that basically everyone is hiking the Kailash Kora as part of a pilgrimage adds to the experience. We saw only one other group of non-Tibetans during the 2.5 day hike. Day one of the hike is a nice stroll, and a great way to get your body used to it all. Day two is a big day. Early start to tackle a pass which you keep thinking is almost in reach. The ground is rocky and I definitely recommend poles (which you can pick up for cheap in the town you begin the walk). The downhill part is quite steep and more loose dirt than the other side. After you have made it down that section you are welcomed to a tea house for lunch and then it is flat and chilled for the afternoon. Day three is a breeze although the body is pretty knackered by this stage. Definitely pack as light as possible! Water is available in all of the tea houses along the way so carrying a couple of small bottles at a time is fine. Food is instant noodles during the day, so you tend to get a bit done with them, but they are enough. Less

Fantastic 8 day trip starting Tibet-Lhasa 3 days,5 days through Tibet to Mount Everest base camp and then on to Nepal's border. The whole trip was well planned by Tibet Vista, the guide was very knowledgeable and told us everything we needed / wanted to know about historical monuments and culture. There was plenty of time at all the different sights we were at, so no stress. All the hotels were of very good standard and good breakfast. We are super happy with our trip through Tibet, we will go home so much richer on everything.
