The Holy Elephant Gate is another place you can experience, which is on the northern shore of Namtso Lake, offering iconic scenery of the lake. It is a natural rock arch, resembling an elephant dipping its trunk into the holy lake. It is also a sacred site, where you can meet local pilgrims who kora around it.

On the way to Namtso Lake, you’ll pass through the Nargen la Pass, where you can marvel at the stunning vista of Namtso Lake from a distance. Located at 5,190 meters above sea level, Nargen la Pass is part of the Nyenchen Tangula Mountains.

May to October are the best months to visit Namtso Lake. During these periods, the temperatures are usually above 10°C, making it warm and comfortable for travel. The lake, at its most stunning, is surrounded by clear blue skies, snow-capped mountains, and wild animals.

It is also possible to visit Namtso Lake in winter, which is a good time to see the unique scenery of the frozen lake. However, as the temperature may drop below 0°C, warm clothing is needed. In addition, roads to the lake may be blocked by snow, so be prepared to adjust your plans accordingly.
