- How to Get There: Kamaduo Stupas is located about 18 kilometers west of Riwoqu County. It takes you about half an hour to drive there.
- Best Time to Visit: You can visit the Kamaduo Stupas almost all year round, but in winter there will be lots of snow. The best time is May to September.
About Kamaduo Stupas
Located on the right side of the north line of the Ancient Tea Horse Road, 20 kilometers away from the Riwoqu county town, there is a splendid Kamaduo Stupas in Tibet. The Kamaduo Stupas is surrounded by beautiful scenery and ancient trees, pines and cypresses, and evergreens.
This area was called “Baxag” in ancient times, and later it was changed into Kamaduo. At the tenth Raojiong in the Tibetan calendar, Garma Chamei who is the disciple of the sixth Rka Ma Pa of Red Hat Line Gewang Chokyi Baxag Quyama. When he did the ritual of “Jiachi” in this place, the mandala of Amitayus appeared before his eyes. This place was then regarded as the holy land of Amitayus. Afterward, the Buddhist pagodas and monasteries have been set up here.
According to the legend, there were over 130 Buddhist pagodas and a small Lhakahang were restored after the Cultural Revolution, including not only the Pagoda of Eight Buddha but also the Pagoda in square shape; not only the big pagodas of several meters. There is a huge Mani Stone Mound behind the Sutra Hall. It was said that it has a history of more than 1,300 years.
