For travelers coming from outside Tibet, direct flights to Nyingchi are the most convenient option, taking just 2 to 4 hours. Nyingchi Mainling Airport offers non-stop flights from Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi’an, and Beijing, allowing easy access to eastern Tibet from mainland China.
Among these cities, Chengdu offers the most convenient access to Nyingchi, with five direct flights operating daily. The Chengdu to Nyingchi flight takes no more than 2.5 hours and costs around USD 254 for an economy ticket.
If time allows, an overland trip to Nyingchi via the scenic Sichuan-Tibet Highway is a great option. This 5 to 6 days journey takes you from the Sichuan Basin into the Tibetan Plateau, passing through the Hengduan Mountains and into the Himalayas and the Nyenchen Tanglha range.
Another overland route to Nyingchi is via the Yunnan-Tibet Highway. Starting from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, the road heads north through the Hengduan Mountains, following its eastern edge, and eventually reaches Nyingchi.

You can also travel from Lhasa to Nyingchi by land. The Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway offers a fast and scenic route, reducing travel time to around 5 hours. The expressway ascends the high Mila Mountain Pass before descending into the picturesque Niyang River Valley and entering Nyingchi.
