Top 5: Qudengnima Glacier, praised by Chinese National Geography
As ‘the End of the World’ is called by China National Geography, Qudengnima Glacier is located at the junction of China, India, and Nepal, at the southern edge of Gamba County, Shigatse.
It takes its name from the sacred Gudengnima Monastery. In the legend, Guru Padmasambhava practiced in the cave at the foot of the snow mountain on his way back to India after preaching in Tibet. Nowadays, the glacier, the monastery, and the surrounding holy lakes are revered as sacred sites by local Tibetans, who come here to undertake pilgrimage kora.
At the foot of the glacier are three plateau lakes, showing different blue and green under the sunlight. Connecting to the lake, Qudengnima Glacier is like a huge ice wall, shining with a faint blue light under the sun. As the lake and glacier complement each other, the scenery is quite breathtaking.
Qudengnima Glacier can be visited all year round. If it is in winter, when the lake is frozen, you can even walk from the lake face to the foot of the glacier for a close view. Of course, no matter when you visit, choosing a sunny day is the most important. Under the sunshine, the pure white glaciers and colorful lakes will be more amazing.

Pay attention to the high altitude sickness while visiting glaciers in Tibet. Most glaciers are located over 4,000 meters above sea level. It is suggested to take a gradual journey from lower-altitude areas to acclimatize before heading to glacier regions.
Dress in layers whenever you visit the glacier in Tibet. The temperature difference between day and night in Tibet is quite huge. Even in summer, you need to prepare a warm coat for visiting Tibet. Meanwhile, temperatures in glacier areas are always colder than in cities, so it is essential to wear warm clothing that is easy to put on and take off.
Please take proper sun protection measures and wear sunglasses because of the strong ultraviolet radiation in Tibet. In addition, glaciers strongly reflect sunlight, so wearing sunglasses will not only protect your eyes but also help you enjoy the stunning landscapes more comfortably.
