Day 3: Bomi to Nyingchi via Lulang Forest
In the morning, you will continue your journey from Bomi to Nyingchi through some of the most beautiful summer landscapes of southeastern Tibet.
First, you will visit Lulang International Tourism Town, where you can take a leisurely stroll among traditional Tibetan-style buildings surrounded by mountains and forests. With its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful natural setting, the town is often compared to a Swiss-style mountain village.
Then, you will continue to the famous Lulang Forest, a stunning alpine meadow area surrounded by snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and rolling hills. In summer, the forest and grasslands become especially vibrant, with lush green meadows, wildflowers, spruce and pine trees creating a refreshing landscape. You can hike to the Lulang Forest Viewing Platform to enjoy panoramic views of the forest-covered valleys and the beautiful scenery of eastern Tibet.
After exploring Lulang Forest, you will continue your journey and cross Serkhyim La Pass (4,728m). This is one of the best viewpoints to admire the magnificent Mount Namcha Barwa (7,782m). Weather permitting, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the snow-capped peak rising above the surrounding valleys and hang Tibetan prayer flags to send your blessings.
Next, you will visit the Great Cypress Nature Reserve Area, located southeast of Bayi Town. Here, you can admire towering ancient cypress trees, including one of China’s oldest trees with a history of more than 2,500 years. Considered sacred by local Tibetans and closely connected with the traditions of the Bön religion, this ancient forest is also an important pilgrimage site.

In the morning, you will first visit Basum Tso Lake (also known as Draksum Tso Lake), a beautiful holy lake of the Nyingmapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. In summer, the lake is surrounded by lush forests, green mountains, and vibrant alpine landscapes, creating one of the most beautiful scenes in southeastern Tibet. You can hike to the Daqiela Viewing Platform to enjoy a panoramic view of Basum Tso Lake, which looks like a crescent moon nestled in a high mountain valley. The crystal-clear lake, azure waves, and peaceful surroundings create a refreshing summer escape.
On the heart-shaped island in the middle of the lake stands Tsodzong Monastery of the Nyingma-Red Sect, with a history of around 1,500 years. Surrounded by dense forests and emerald-green waters, the ancient monastery creates a breathtaking scene with snow-capped peaks rising in the background.
After exploring the lake, you can take a tourist yacht and cruise across the tranquil waters of Basum Tso Lake. Enjoy the fresh summer breeze, admire the reflections of the surrounding mountains, and experience the peaceful beauty of this sacred lake from a different perspective.
Later, you will continue your journey and cross Mila Pass (5,013m), the last mountain pass on your road trip to Lhasa.

Discover the lives and stories of the Dalai Lamas through history within the palace, and the extraordinary treasures it holds. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.
After exploring the Potala Palace, continue to Longwangtan Park at its foot, where lush greenery and colorful summer scenery create a peaceful atmosphere. This is a perfect place to enjoy a different perspective of the Potala Palace, while observing local Tibetans practicing traditional folk activities and enjoying their daily leisure time.
In the afternoon, you will head to the heart of Tibetan religion - the Jokhang Temple. Inside the temple, you will see the sacred statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve, while outside, you can witness devoted pilgrims performing prostrations in front of the temple. Around the Jokhang Temple, walk along Barkhor Street, join pilgrims and locals on a kora (a clockwise walk around a sacred site), and explore the lively old market filled with Tibetan handicrafts and local flavors.

In summer, the mountain slopes around Drepung Monastery become lush and green, making the view of Lhasa more vibrant and beautiful, with the traditional white buildings of the old city blending into the highland landscape.
