Photography Tours -- “capture the most charming moments of Tibet with your camera”
Famous for stunning natural landscapes, Tibet has vast territory and spectacular topography. People on this land have created rich and splendid Tibetan culture since ancient times. The general terrain of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is tilted from northwest to Southeast with complex and diverse topography and various landscapes. There are majestic and winding mountain ranges, cliffy and deep canyons, grand glaciers, bare stones, continuous Gobi, sacred lakes, snow-capped mountains, lush forest, vast prairie and other natural landscapes. Tibetan Buddhism, dominating the politics, economy and culture of Tibet, and ancient Tibetan Bon permeates every aspects of Tibetan social life, thus creating splendid culture and folk customs, which are different from other nations. Therefore, all of them are best subjects for photography.
What to see
This tour covers Potala palace, the landmark in Lhasa, Jokhang temple, the holiest temple in the hearts of Tibetan people, and several momentous monasteries of Gelug sect, like Drepung monastery, Sera monastery and Tashilhunpo monastery. You can find an ideal angle in the corner of the monastery to shoot Lama’s back, or capture devout pilgrims who prostrate themselves on the Barkhor Street. Besides, you can look up at a corner of Potala palace to appreciate the Heavenly Palace, or shoot the kind face of Buddha through dim light of butter lamps.
Moreover, this tour contains two of three holy lakes in Tibet, Yamdrok Lake, Namtso Lake, and Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. You can overlook charming and graceful Yamdrok Lake, or look up at shy silhouette of Mount Everest in the twilight and appreciate Namtso Lake lying tenderly in the arm of Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains. In addition, you couldn’t afford to miss the vast sky and deep universe of Namtso Lake and Mt. Everest at night. There’s always something for you.
When to go
Due to the high altitude and low temperature in winter, it is inappropriate to visit Mt. Everest and Namtso Lake, as the frozen period of Namtso Lake is from late October to middle April of next year. Therefore, the highly recommended travel season is from May to October, and May, June, September and October are the best. July to August is the rainy season in Tibet, which is hard to see Mt. Everest clearly as it is always overshadowed by clouds and mist.
