4. When is the best time to take a self drive road trip to Tibet?
You can drive to Tibet all year round. If your destination is the Everest region, the best time to go is spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), because during these months the climate is dry and visibility is high, so you can better appreciate the snow-covered mountain tops.
You can also drive to Tibet in winter, but be careful of snowfall in high-altitude mountains and slippery roads on snowy days.
If you plan to drive from Sichuan or Yunnan to Tibet, be aware that summer is the rainy season in the Hengduan Mountains at the junction of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Tibet. During this time, the road to Tibet may be damaged by geological disasters such as landslides due to heavy rainfall.
