Day 2: Nyingchi - Lulang Forest, Rhododendrons of Sejila Pass, Mt. Namcha Barwa, Gongbu Tibetan family Visit, Archery (60km, B&D)

After getting travel documents in Nyingchi, we head for dense Lulang Forest. At Sejila Mountain Pass (4,728m), you can admire the imposing Mt. Namcha Barwa with blooming rhododendrons sprawling Mt. Sejila.

(In the morning, if there are newly-arrived guests at Nyingchi Mainling Airport, our guide will first pick them up from the airport. After joining guests from Lhasa, we will proceed to handle travel documents before heading to Lulang Forest.)

In Nyingchi, we’ll first process travel permits before heading to Sejila Mountain Pass, known for its sea of rhododendrons. Your guide will take you closely admire these alpine rhododendrons. From Sejila, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Namcha Barwa (7,782m), hailed as China’s most beautiful snow peak, towering above the forest (best seen from late October to April).

Our adventure continues to the Lulang Forest, nestling in a vast lush valley. Here, we’ll visit a traditional Gongbu Tibetan family. Day 4: Ranwu Lake - Lulang Forest, Laigu Yalong Glacier (340km, B)

Let’s embark on an in-depth exploration of Laigu Glacier’s Blue Ice Lake or the Yalong Glacier, and immerse yourself in the breathtaking snow-capped peaks and vibrant blue ice caves of Laigu Glacier.

The tremendous Laigu Glacier consists of six glaciers, and depending on the season, different sections of the Blue Ice Caves open up. In May, the ice lake of Laigu Glacier slowly melts. Inside the blue ice cave, you can witness the amazing light refraction creating hues of violet, turquoise, and sea green - like being in an ancient underwater world.

Beyond the ice lake area, the farther blue ice caves require 4WD vehicle, driven by local villagers to reach. We’ll plan your blue Ice journey based on the open sections, with visits ranging from 2 to 6 hours based on different locations and seasons. You’ll have ample time to explore the glacier and ice caves to your heart’s content in the dazzling blue glaciers and ice lakes.

En route to glaciers, you can enjoy close-up views of pastoral meadows, blue alpine lakes, and rolling snowy peaks that seem within easy reach. This may be the most impressive display of snow peaks you’ve ever witnessed, stretching endlessly in all directions, and magnificent in scale.

After visiting Laigu Glacier, we’ll descend along the shores of Ranwu Lake in afternoon sunlight. As the sun softens, the lake’s vibrant green waters reflect the snow-capped peaks, meadows, and pastures, creating a poetic landscape. After leaving the lake, we’ll drive back to the Lulang Forest for the lodging. It may be a late return, but the stunning scenery you’ve experienced will be etched in your memory forever.

From there, embark on an 8km (or 2.5 hours) lakeside trek, immersing yourself in the serenity of untouched nature.

This highlighted trek is a feast for the senses. 4. When is the best time for the Nyingchi Rhododendron Season Tour ?

The best time to visit for the Nyingchi Rhododendron Season Tour is from late April to June. During this period, the mountains and forests are covered in vibrant pink wild rhododendrons, creating a breathtaking landscape. This is when the flowers are in full bloom, offering a truly magical experience.

5. What is the altitude of Nyingchi in Tibet? And how to deal with high altitude sickness?

Nyingchi is located at an altitude of around 3,040 meters above sea level, making it one of the lower-altitude regions in Tibet.

This makes Nyingchi a great choice for first-time visitors, as you can enjoy breathtaking landscapes without the same risks of altitude sickness that higher regions may pose.

According to our experience, most travelers adjust easily to Nyingchi, and severe altitude symptoms are uncommon.

However, if you experience severe altitude sickness symptoms in Nyingchi, such as intense headaches or difficulty breathing, use oxygen immediately, inform your guide, and seek medical attention promptly.

If needed, our guide will assist in transferring you to a lower altitude location to ensure your comfort and well-being.

7. What to pack for the Nyingchi Rhododendron Season Tour?

Besides the clothes to take, here are some more things to prepare for your Nyingchi Rhododendron Season Tour.

Personal Care: Pack your essentials such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, facial cleanser, towels, and other personal toiletries. Since there are no shower facilities at Everest Base Camp, consider bringing wet wipes for convenience.

Skincare: Due to the dry climate in Tibet, pack lip balm, moisturizing cream, and hydrating masks to prevent skin dryness and cracking.

Sun Protection: Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and sunglasses for effective sun protection against the strong UV rays in Tibet.

Additional Necessities: Considering the long distances between attractions in Tibet, bring a U-shaped pillow for a comfortable journey. Also, having a thermal flask ensures you have hot water whenever needed.

Common Medications: Take essential medications like motion sickness pills, gastrointestinal medicine, anti-inflammatory drugs, cold medicine, and other medications for emergencies. Include adhesive bandages and eye drops. (Consult your doctor and carefully follow medical advice when taking medication.)

Electronic Devices: Bring your phone, camera, power bank, and any other necessary electronic devices. If you plan to bring a drone, check with our travel consultant in advance. Tibet operates on a 220V voltage.

Cash and Cards: Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely accepted in Lhasa. Credit cards can be used in some large hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls in Lhasa. However, in some small restaurants and shops, cash may still be necessary. It's advisable to carry a small amount of Chinese yuan and at least one bank card with you.
