Qinghai-Tibet Railway, also known as the sky road, connects Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province and Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The full-blossomed rapeseed flowers are one of the highlights of Tibet train in summer while passing the Qinghai Lake. Though, speaking of Tibet, the first impression that will pop up in one’s mind is the iconic Potala Palace, to Tibetans, the true spiritual heart of Tibet is Jokhang Temple. Following long lines of Tibetan pilgrims, you can visit the life-size statues of 12-year-old Sakyamuni. Surrounded by dimly-lit butter lamps and enigmatic murals, you can feel a tangible sense of holiness. As you climb to the rooftop of Jokhang Temple, the panoramic view of bustling Barkhor Bazaar down below is within your easy sight. You can also enjoy the superb vista of Potala Palace from a different perspective as well.



Stroll along Barkhor Street
Barkhor Street around Jokhang Temple is the center of activities in downtown Lhasa. You will be deeply impressed by the pious Tibetans who prostrate themselves before the Jokhang Temple. The air is filled with the aroma of incense and pine tree branches around incense burner. A variety of Tibetan, Indian, and western restaurants are available. Streets of souvenir shops line up on both of the street. Plenty of interesting handmade artifacts and souvenirs can be seen. If you get tried, then just have a couple of sweet tea and some snacks in tea houses there.


Explore in Deprung Monastery, the Biggest Gelugpa Monastery in Lhasa
As the biggest and most important Gelupga monasteries in Lhasa, Drepung Monastery is a must-visit if you come for Tibetan Buddhism. The massive monastery is not as crowded as Jokhang Temple. You can closely look at the daily life of Tibetan monks. Since the monastery is built on the hillside, you will enjoy the view of surrounding mountains and of Lhasa city. During Shoton Festival, awful lots of Tibetan pilgrims and tourists will come to this Buddhist academy to see gigantic Thangka Buddha unfolding ceremony.





Get a Glimpse of Boisterous Monk Debate in Sera Monastery
To the majority of tourists, the animated monk debate (from 3pm-5pm) is what truly draws the crowds of world-wide visitors. By rolling their Buddhist mala, clapping hands and shouting and yelling, one monk will question the other monk who sits on the ground about the Buddhist philosophy and lesson they learn in the monastery. Besides, you can also closely observe the Buddhist scripture and famous mandala sand painting inside the monastery.

Travel from Lhasa to Gyantse via holy Yamdrok Lake
Yamdrok Lake(4441m) is located in Nangartse County of Shannan Prefecture. The turquoise Yamdrok Lake is one of the top three holy lakes in Tibet and the nearest one to Lhasa city, about 70 km southwest of Lhasa. As the tour vehicle travels along the winding road beside the lake, you will see the running horse in the pasture. As a common practice, we will stop at Gangbala Mountain Pass(5030m) , the best place to take panoramic photos of incredible Yamdrok Lake.




Going Wild in the Sea of Rapeseed Flowers
The blossom season of yellow rapeseed flowers starts from July to early Sept across Tibet. While traveling from Yamdrok Lake to Shigatse, tourists can feast their eyes with brilliant rape flowers in August. Ongkor Festival is the time for Tibetan farmers to celebrate the bumper harvest of the whole year. It’s particularly popular in Lhasa, Shigatse, Shannan and usually held in the seven or eighth month of Tibetan calendar. Usually, the locals will treat the guest with home-made barley wine, known as Chang and tsampa, potatoes, butter tea, etc.

In Tibetan language, Namtso Lake means Heavenly Lake. Located in the Damxung County, Lake Namtso is the second largest lake in Tibet and the third largest saltwater lake in China. And it’s common to see tourists take wedding photo with Tibetan locals and yak at the lakeshore. You can also explore the caves in Tashi Dor Island. There is a good and evil hole. It’s said that if one can crawl through the hole, he can get rid of all the sins and bad luck. Do have a try. Of course, you can spend the night beside Namtso Lake for the amazing starry night.
