As we all know, Tibet is located at the highest plateau in the world - Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with an average altitude of 4000m, which leads to the regional features of Tibetan cuisine - lacking vegetables, consisting mainly barley, meat, and dairy products. Generally, the daily Tibetan cuisine is composed of noodles, hulless barley, yak meat, mutton, Tibetan Momos, cheese, tsampa and so on, which high-calorie food can maintain their energy to complete everyday life and production at this high altitude. There is no hurry. At first, we have to prepare ingredients you need before cooking. Of course, all ingredients will be picked up by yourself in the largest market in Lhasa named Tromsikhang, which also supports Tibetan’s daily life. Here, the tour guide will accompany you to choose each ingredient you need and give you some introduction. When you hang out in Tromsikhang, the range of Tibetan goods will attract your attention, including all kinds of vegetables, fruits, meat, handicrafts, etc., especially the air-dry yak meat. After purchase, the tour guide will lead you to the local family to make the food. Certainly, the whole process will continue under teacher’s expert guidance, the tour guide will lead you to make Tibetan Cuisine step by step, so you do not worry how to cook. For instance, our two clients had successfully made Tibetan Momos with our tour guide not that long ago. From making the dough to making the filling, the cooking teacher taught carefully. During studying, they also learned much information about Tibetan Momos, such as the steps of making Momo dough are quite important.

1. First of all, they used all-purpose flour to make the dough, mixing the flour and water fully, kneading dough until it becomes very smooth.
2. Then, they prepared a cling film or lid to cover it for a while. This moment, they could make the filling according to their taste.
3. Next, rolling the dough into small balls, using a rolling pin to roll it out in rounded slices, and wrapping the filling in the slices, they shaped the dough into round and half-moon Momos.
4. Finally, steaming the Momos about 10 minutes, the authentic Tibetan Momos had completed perfectly.

Looks mouth-watering and wanna have a go yourself? If so, join our Tibet tours quickly to have a cooking class. Here, we share some pictures of cooking class when hanging out in Tromsikhang and making Tibetan Momo for you. If there still is any question, please contact us!
