Go ahead! The New Everest Monument is Waiting for You!
Latest Update: June,27 2023
Whether you acknowledge it or not, when travel to a famous scenery spot, most people will take photos with the monument or landmark of this place, for some reason or another. For example, when travel around Lhasa, the provincial capital and center of Tibet, we will definitely take a sightseeing of the holy Potala Palace, and catch some of the perfect pictures in front of this magnificent architecture. So, for people who trek for a long way to reach the well-known Everest Base Camp, the Everest Monument is the holy landmark, with which we are all unable to hold ourselves back to take a picture.
The Everest Monument is a stone tablet marking the 5200-meter elevation of the Everest Base Camp. Previously located on a small hill 4 km south of the Everest Base Camp, the monument was the closest site to take in the stunning view of Mount Everest. However, as it may not be known to everyone, the monument has now been moved to the location right next to the camping site of Everest Base Camp, for better protection of the environment of Mount Everest. The new Everest Monument is as high as an adult, engraved with “Mt.Qomolangma Base Camp” in Chinese, Tibetan and English languages. Its appearance is just like a mountain. Though it seems that you won’t be able to get closer to the Mount Everest, you could still catch the breathtaking view of the world summit.
In fact, whether the Everest Monument has moved closer or further away, it still remains the holy position in the heart of every traveler to Mount Everest. Since we all try a long way, even across sea and mountains, to finally make it to the Everest. And the Everest Monument itself will still stand high at the foot of Mount Everest, waiting for the arrival of every adventurous traveler.
