Top 2 Itineraries to Mt. Kailash in July: Overland Tours from Lhasa and Kathmandu
Among all the classic Mt.Kailash itineraries, two stand out, offering the option to start from either Lhasa or Kathmandu. Both include the famous 3-day kora and provide breathtaking views of the Himalayas from different angles.
15-Day Kailash and Manasarovar Small Group Tour from Lhasa: As one of the most popular Tibet small group tour, it combines a visit to Mt. Kailash with a trip to Everest Base Camp. The journey has three parts: explore Lhasa, visit EBC, and complete the 3-day Kailash kora. Starting in Lhasa helps you adjust to the altitude.
You’ll spend the first three days in Lhasa, visiting landmarks like the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. Then, travel along the scenic G318 Highway to EBC via Shigatse. A night at EBC and views of Mt. Everest make for an exciting start before heading to Kailash.
Next, continue to Darchen, the starting point of the kora. Walk with pilgrims as you complete the sacred trek. Afterward, visit Manasarovar before returning to Lhasa by a different route.

Practical Tips from Our Travel Experts for a Mt. Kailash Tour in July
#1. Although most days in July are clear, occasional rain is expected. So, besides your trekking gear, it's best to bring a raincoat or a waterproof down jacket. An umbrella is not recommended, as it can be difficult to carry while trekking and strong winds may make it unsafe.
#2. If you plan to visit Mt. Kailash in July, book your trek at least by June. This allows enough time to process all required permits, including the Chinese Visa, Tibet Travel Permit and other permits that require. Early booking ensures a smooth trip.
#3. High altitude sickness is common at this elevation. The Kailash Kora sits at an average height of about 5,000 meters, with the highest point reaching 5,630 meters at Dromala Pass. However, the higher oxygen level in summer can help make the trek more comfortable.
#4. July is the peak season for visiting Mt. Kailash, especially among domestic tourists. To secure your spot and lower costs, it’s better to book early and take advantage of our early bird discount.
