It only takes about 15min walk from the Jokhang Temple in the Barkhor area of Lhasa. Ramoche Temple is the academy of Gelugpa sec, which qualifies monks to study the Buddhist scriputures. Like Jokhang Temple, Ramoche is full of life with feverent Tibetan pilgrims and world-wide visitors.

Established in 1447 by the 1st Dalai Lama, Tashilhunop Monastery is the traditional throne of the Panchen Lamas - the 2nd highest ranking of the high lamas in Tibetan Buddhism behind the Dalai Lama. This massive Buddhist academy is well-preserved with its various chapels , stupas, statues and shrines. You can still see plenty of monks studying inside. Do not miss the the magnificent statue of the "Maitreya Buddha", the world’s largest staue of Future Buddha and listen to monk’s chanting inside assemble hall.
