Tour Drepung Monastery, the Biggest of “Three Great Gelugpa Monasteries” in Lhasa
Built in 1416, Drepung Monastery is the biggest Gelugpa monasteries across Tibet and the biggest one in Lhasa. The monastery has large collection of historical relics and Buddhist scriptures. The best time to visit this monastery is during the traditional Shoton Festival when the gigantic Thangka Buddha will be displaying on the mountains and diverse festivities to enjoy.

In fact, even the most particular taste bud, Lhasa has the dishes you like. View the Sublime Karola Glacier at the Roadside
Of many Tibetan attractions, Karola Glacier is probably one closest to the highway in Nagarze County. You can close observe the magnificent glacier at the white stupa before the glacier. The place is also a famous scene shown in the patriotic movie “Red Valley”.
Take Photos with Dummy Traffic Policeman
In fact, to ensure tourists’ safety while touring Tibet, the speed limit of 40km/h is imposed on the way to most attractions in Tibet. Every so often, you will see the dummy policeman at the roadside to remind drivers to drive safely.
Gaze at Himalayan Mountain Range at Gawu La Pass (5198m)
Since Shigatse is home to Mt. Everest, the world’s Summit, the highlight of traveling in this prefecture would be viewing of the awe-inspiring mountains along imposing Himalayan Range. One of the best places to view the grand vista of it would be at Gawu La Pass where you can easily enjoy the top 5 highest mountains in Himalayas, i.e. Makalu(8463m), Lhotse(8516m), Mt. Everest (8844.43m) and Cho Oyu (8201m)and Shishapangma(8012m).
Hang Prayer Flags While Passing the Mountain Pass
As you travel in Tibet, you probably will notice that whenever you pass a mountain pass, there will be massive colorful prayer flags on it. Tibetans believe that 5-color prayer flags written with Tibetan Buddhist scriptures can spread their good wishes and blessings to infinite space when the wind blows the flags.
Arrive at Rongbuk Monastery (5154m), the Highest Monastery in the World
Rongbuk Monastery is located 8km away from the Everest Base Camp (5200m). Small as it is, the monastery contains Guru Rinpoche’s meditation cave and a piece of stone with his handprint and footprint. For mountaineers who are about to climb Mt. Everest, they would normally go to this monastery and get blessings from the monks before they venture into the holy mountain. To many tourists, they would prefer trek from Rongbuk to Everest Base Camp as a challenge for them. Besides, it’s the best place to view Mt. Everest at the mid-distance.
Finally, Make it to Everest Base Camp (5200m)
To many tourists, making it to Everest Base Camp fulfills their dream of a lifetime. You may choose to stay overnight in the tents at the EBC or move back to stay at Rongbuk Monastery. The food and accommodation are very basic. The golden summit of Mt. Everest at sunset and spectacular flag clouds over its summit are two natural wonders of the holy mountain. The best time to travel to EBC would be April, May, Sept, Oct and Nov.
